A fellow Mustang restorer sent me a parts question today(March 10) and I sent him a response. The question was about general pricing on selling a set of high back bucket seats for a 1969 Ford Mustang. Since I'm far from dealing with my Mustang's upholstery it was a little difficult to answer and I had to do a little research on ebay prices and look at Cal-Mustang,
Laurel Mountain Mustang and
Johns Mustang. Apparently the seats don't come just easy out of the box they come in parts because I'm sure most people repair them. But anyhow I constructed a response and below is what was sent it might help others out!
Hi Ted,
Buying seats is something I haven't researched much because I'm far from that right now. From the look of ebay you might want to try starting them at $300-400 and see how they sell. I believe you can relist something once for free if that doesn't work out you can lower it. I think people would probably pay more than that for it and if you give it a good listing you'll probably have no problem getting what you think you should get for them or more.
Most of the time when I get things off of ebay at actual "deals" its because the seller didn't give a complete listing for the items and not alot of other ebay buyers find them. Right now on ebay someone has listed some high back mach 1 seats like the ones I have in my Mustang for $379 with no bids and less than 2 days remaining on the auction. There are probably no bids because they're pick-up only. Be careful with shipping because it'll cost alot of money to ship those big things and probably be a pain for you.(its going to cost well over $100 to ship them) Seats look like they're to be extremely expensive new and come in parts and not as a whole piece so I'd think someone would give a good amount for a pair of complete seats. Just remember to get all your buzz words in there such as 69 Mustang 1969 Seats Seat 69 Mach 1 Ford and take some good pictures of the seats cleaned up nice so people can see what they're getting. If they are indeed in good shape and original I think you're likely to do well.
Looking at whats involved I'm glad that my seats are in ok shape
Hope this helps - Jerry
