Warhammer 40K Ork Tips

I've done a good deal of research in using Ork armies and through trial and error I've developed quite a good understanding for how they work. In this page I'll address a few things that I've come up with and a few I've read on other online tutorials so that people don't have to trip over the same mistakes as myself. Update - Its May of 2005 and I wrote this page in 2004 when I was still learning to play the game. I'm alot better now and have had a few errors pointed out and lessons learned from Ork players. This page is in revision

Warhammer 40K Ork Usage Tips
  • When using Large Mobs of boyz do so with the addition of fast attack bikes, stormboyz or trukks. You have to have some sort of preliminary wave for your large troop choices to make it across the board. A kustom force field mek is a good idea too.
  • Forget the heavy weapons boyz - In your large mobs unless you're lacking gun trukks or tanks. You may want to take rokket launchers if you don't have other methods available for tank busting at a distance.(trukks, killer kanz with rokkets)
  • Arm & Armor your nobs to the teeth - power claw & choppa(no gun) Make sure each unit has one of these bad boyz. Boyz are great in hand to hand but your nob will hit & kill as many as the rest of your boyz. They can also bust open tanks.
  • Use Fire Magnets - Gun Trukks, Killer Kan screens, Looted Tanks, bikes. All of these will allow for troops to make it in to do their damage. Meks with kustom force fields following tanks or kanz makes them very difficult targets to kill and too much to leave alone. Your opponent will frustrate over this. If they don't get popped great but the object is to get your boyz in. The boyz do your damage.
  • Use Looted Vehicles - Not a transport. A heavy tank such as the Leman Russ or a basilisk. I suggest the most armored one you can work in because they will try to kill it fast. Most people freak out over a basilisk with indirect fire capability or a Leman Russ battle tank that is always hull down due to a mek. Buy the armored top for the basilisk.
  • Use Elite Foot Troops - But not all of them. Shoota boyz aren't worth the spot on your unit. I recommend the Ard Boyz and the Skar Boyz as a troop choice behind your screen. Storm boyz are an effective killing force but expensive.
  • Transports are Key - Trukks are essential to combat in my opinion. They're a quick way to get your forces into combat and take the focus off of shooting. My command squad is always in a trukk and always headed for the largest concentration of enemy troops. This way my boss can kill as much as he can. Against players such as the Tau, Imperial Guard, etc you need them to get there and win. Kustom Force Fields again are a way to keep them alive longer and most importantly protect from ordinance and penetrating shots.
