Baton Rouge in August

Balloon Festival, Preseason for LSU Football

August is so hot its unbearable for me in Baton Rouge. I don't go outside alot after noon until night time. In August everything revolves around outside because its hot and you can have outdoor events.

Hot Air Balloon Festival - The Hot Air Balloon festival events schedule. Every year it seems like this event gets rained on but its still alot of fun and held over near Perkin's road for a weekend. Great family event.

Hanging out on the River

A favorite place for locals to go hang out is on the Tickfaw river. A favorite establishment is The Prop Stop which is a bar on the river. This is the absolute best time you'll have around here during the hot months but you'll need a boat or a friend with a boat!

Sunday Night Bar For Baton Rouge

Since Baton Rouge doesn't allow alcohol sales by a regular bar on Sundays alot of people head on down to Prairieville. Of course there is the Alligator Bayou Bar which is also where they have tours of Spanish lake. Then there is Spanky's Daiquiris in Prairieville. Both have live music and about as good a crowd as you can expect on Sunday night.

LSU Football 2006

Of course if you're like me then you're just waiting for LSU football season to start up and give us a weekend event! Last year was crazy due to the hurricane but hopefully this year will be more calm. Alot of preseason football stuff goes on around town and alot of people like to go check it out. For August one of the best things is the LSU Fan Day or "LSU Fan Fun Day" as they call it on the radio. In 2006 it'll be on August 13 at 1:30 on the South Lawn of Tiger Stadium.

In addition there is the taste of tiger tailgating event that is held at the Baton Rouge River Center on August 26, 2006. Food, drinks and fun. I'd definitely check this out especially if you're from out of town and staying downtown as alot of people do.
