Baton Rouge Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras Parades other than New Orleans

I went to the Orion Mardi Gras ball and it occurred to me that I hadn't put up a schedule for Mardi Gras events in Baton Rouge yet. Its probably the second most important thing that takes place in Baton Rouge behind LSU football season so it definitely requires a schedule here on my website. In past years I've looked for parade schedules online and haven't found them so I'm obligated to produce something for all the people wishing to see parades in Baton Rouge. They're smaller than all the New Orleans madness not to mention New Orleans is in pretty bad shape this year after Hurricane Katrina. I say smaller but they're still large and fun with beads, booze and parties. I'll try just to list big parades that I've enjoyed or have heard were good. So lets see what we can do...

Baton Rouge Area Mardi Gras Parades: - Check out their websites for parade times since they change from year to year and depending on the weather. Additionally Best of Baton Rouge Mardi Gras section has a great list of parades and times.

Baton Rouge Area Boat Parades:

  • Rolling on The River has information on at least three boat parades that take place right outside of Baton Rouge in Ascension parish. People describe the path to the area differently but usually if you go down Airline towards Gonzales and take a left on Highway 42 you can follow it all the way down to the Amite River and across to Highway 16 which will get you to the boat parade areas that are around the Diversion Canal area. Krewe of St. Amant. Krewe of Diversion.. Two great boat parade events for you. These parades are a great time for the family every year. Everyone should check them out.
  • A Tickfaw River boat parade also rolls in mid February. Krewe of Tin Lizzy's. I have never been but you can see whats going on for Tickfaw River events here. I hear they're good but I'm from Ascension originally so I go to the Diversion Canal parades.
