Buying a DVD Camcorder

Modern Electronics = Rocket Science

I've thought about buying a camcorder for a while now and with the DVD recorders available it just looks like too cool an item. Not to mention I want to start a video blog and further record work on my Mustang. So I started browsing at Wal-Mart the other day and I realize an obvious fact.....

I don't know a thing about Digital Cameras or Camcorders!!

Well good thing there are sites out there like Shopping.com to help out consumers so I've started looking around and comparing. It appears that people really like the Sony and Panasonic lines of products for Digital Camcorders. So I think I have it narrowed to wanting a DVD Camcorder so that I can put this stuff on a disk without having to go through a computer or something like that. However it still remains: I don't know how to choose a DVD Camcorder. And Shopping.com really isn't that much help so I'm switching over to reading news on DVD Recorders at Google News Maybe by using Google to narrow my scope I can actually make some sense of all the reviews and crap available over at Shopping.com.

I'm getting somewhere

I stumbled on some good DVD Recorder stuff at CNET and now its led me back to reading on Shopping.com. I'm down to about 50 possible DVD Camcorders I might want to buy. It looks like the Sony line of Handycams are the way to good but its hard to be sure. Shopping.com doesn't really say anything that useful. 1 line reviews and small criticisms don't really help me make a $500-$1000 decision on a piece of electronics hardware. Amazon however appears to have alot of nice reviews on the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 DVD Camcorder that is sort of the front runner at the moment.

Well I just made a conclusion:

After reading for about 30 minutes I found that Amazon is the way to go as far as where to find information about the products I'm looking for. I really hadn't expected that but I'm pleased regardless. So shopping = use Google, use Amazon, Shopping.com is practically worthless. Thats kind of funny because I know shopping.com was recently purchased for a high dollar amount by Ebay and alot of people think its supremely useful. While you get alot of products on the screen at one time they don't really tell you much. Not to mention I found some of their vendors shady in the past.

So my tip on research: Use Amazon to shop and compare Digital Camcorders.
