Cat Logic

I don't understand cat psychology.

My girlfriend and I have lived together for over a year now. Everything has been great but one of the things I have had to get used to is her two cats. I've never lived with house cats and I've tried to understand how they think and what to do to manipulate them to do what I want. It's been a win/lose sort of thing and I must say to this day I can't understand how a cat decides where it wants to lay down and sleep.

See Picture Example A here:

In the center is a pet bed that I purchased for the little calico cat who loves to sleep on top of my laptop case(also in the picture). I put the pet bed in the same place as I used to sit the laptop case thinking she liked sleeping in that particular area. For two weeks she won't even try it out so I tried using it as a pillow on the couch thinking they wanted our scent on it. Wrong answer. For some reason the cat actually likes sleeping on my laptop case and refuses to touch the soft bed that's better than the pillows on my couch! The notebook is full of buttons, hard snaps, it's tough and it's made of vinyl.

So finally I'd about given up and then we figured out how to get Calli to sleep on the new bed we purchased for her...

What's worse is that she'll actually go out of her way not to touch the bed in order to get on the notebook case. The big fat tabby cat won't touch the bed either. He prefers to sleep with his head hovering over the shoes that you've been wearing all day or using a dirty sock as a pillow. Goes to show you they see the world far differently than we do.
