Television Advertising and the Internet

In the last couple of weeks I noticed a big jump in search engine traffic from Google, Yahoo and MSN due to people looking for the big bucking chicken commercial from Burger King. This was curious because to my knowlege big bucking chicken was a come and done thing so that search engine traffic had faded away for the vlog entry I'd posted back in March. Why were people coming back to the SE's looking for this commercial again? Then I noticed what was really going on and that people weren't looking for the same ole funny chicken riding commercial...

It was a new commercial causing a ripple in the web.

Burger King just released a new commercial where the chicken returns riding a motor cycle with a variation of the big bucking song. People started geting back online and looking for content regarding the funny big bucking chicken commercial that they just saw released. Television advertising is seriously effecting how much Internet traffic is generated on that subject. This isn't suprising being that the media, Hollywood and world events have been causing stirs in traffic for years. But it did give me new ideas on producing content for the Internet similar to the old days when we payed attention to what was hot in Hollywood.

First off paying attention to the newest advertising campaigns of large corporations. When a large company prepares to release a new advertising idea you should be ready with some content keyed around whats coming up from company X. From personal experience having content up concerning the first big bucking chicken commercial has picked up for me visitors from SE's and links from other web users looking for the commercial. If Nike is preparing to run a series of tennis commercials featuring Anna Kournikova then punch up some fresh new tennis reviews for example.

Easier Search Engine Traffic

This is different from the old days of paying attention to the buzz in Hollywood for the sake of producing popular content because television ad campaigns aren't talked about near as much online. I find that people discuss these on messageboards but not near as many articles or large websites around the subject. Therefore the subject may not be near as saturated and allow you to pick up search engine visitors easier than if you were competing for traffic on say the NBA finals or the FIFA World cup.

Online Drug Store Example:

Ad campaigns come out and inform people about subjects they may have zero prior knowledge on such as new drugs for common illnesses or conditions. Popular diseases/conditions which have new treatments several times a year such as stress, herpes, heart problems, erectile disfunction, anxiety, back problems, diabetes, etc etc are constantly coming out and running new campaigns. Doing research on these subjects for example and producing content far ahead of time could produce good returns in traffic once it hits television advertising. Far easier than trying to compete with big companies who have been promoting the mainstream lines for years.(viagra, cialas, etc)

Well these thoughts aren't that well organized but I think they get the point across; TV causes stirs in Internet traffic and you can pick them up just by paying attention to whats new and coming in that medium. I'll be doing more television advertising blogging in the future.
