UFC 60 - Fight Reviews

ufc / Well I watched UFC 60 while in Gatlinburg, TN. The fight card was entertaining but quick as alot of the main fights ended in the first round. Alot of submissions in this one.

Alessio Sakara vs. Dean Lister

Dean Lister finally gets to fight in the octagon and puts away the boxer Sakara. Lister is just scary with how comfortable he looks under a guy working in a fight. He eventually catches Sakara in a triangle and puts him away in the first. I'm looking forward to seeing more from the Ultimate Fighter coach and Team Punishment member. Despite being short a good fight! Dean Lister's pretty cool website.

Joe Riggs vs. Mike Swick

Joe Riggs fell victim to the "Swickotine" which is Mike Swick's quick Guillotine.(first round again) Swick has got what it takes to be a contender so I hope to see him get his shot at the light heavyweight title. He's a good quick fighter and looks really fast.(guess thats why they call him Quick) Joe Riggs has been really struggling out there lately. He needs something to elevate him. Bad showing from Riggs made for a quick Quick Mike Swick victory. Mike Swick's website is pretty cool. Man alot of these fighters have websites now days.

Brandon Vera vs. Assuerio Silva

Brandon Vera is a strange looking fellow out there. He looks small until he gets in the ring and you get to see that this is an extremely big guy. He showed off his submissions by catching Silva in a Guillotine choke in the first.(again, first round) "The Truth" says he wants to become heavyweight and light heavyweight champion of the UFC and I think he could do it. He's in a "between" size with long arms and legs so he could go either way. Funny interviews come out of Vera after his fights. I'm a fan. Entertaining action.
Diego Sanchez vs. John Alessio

This was the closest fight of the night and the third round was very fun to watch. For the most part it was just Alessio working a jab and stuffing Diego's takedown attempts. In the third Diego ended up riding John's back for the last three minutes of the round while John tried to work an armbar and Diego tried to get his arm loose to punch or choke. John Alessio is one strong s.o.b. to ride Diego around chicken fight style for that long.

Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie

The much anticipated return of Royce Gracie was short lived against welterweight champion Matt Hughes. Hughes showed Gracie how far the sport has come from the days of the first UFC fights by quickly defeating Gracie in the first round. Gracie was competitive but to his credit he was facing the always dominant champion Matt Hughes. Royce said he'd be back for at least one more fight so maybe he'll get in there and win one before he calls it quits. I was disappointed in this fight hoping for a long battle.
