UFC 61 - Fight Reviews

ufc UFC 61 Bitter Rivals was all build up and no delivery I'll tell you that. The main event fights were a big disappointment and not worth the price of admission. Better to shove this one under the rug and move on to better things.

Josh Neer vs. Josh Burkman

This was by far the best fight of the night between the battle of the Joshes. Good action each round with alot of displays of takedowns and submission attempts. Burkman was really impressive in powering his way out of the triangle choke attempt by Neer. Burkman deserved that win but both guys deserve a standing ovation.

Frank Mir vs. Dan Christison

Frank Mir is really struggling trying to get back into MMA competition. He looks completely out of shape and gassed while fighting "The Sandman" who must get his name from looking like he's asleep in the ring. Boring, slow fight that really should've ended in a draw. Mir gets the decision but he'd better improve his shape soon.

Joe Stevenson Vs. Yves Edwards

Pretty good fight even though it was short. Joe opened a huge gash on Yves so the doctor had to stop it. I've never seen that much blood in a MMA fight.

Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock

What a horrible short fight! They run out, they collide, Tito slams Ken, Tito Elbows Ken about 5 times and Herb Dean steps in to stop it. I agree with the referee's decision for safety but apparently Ken Shamrock felt differently. He looked aware on bottom but for some reason wasn't blocking the shots or attempting to block them. Tito does his usual "bad boy" b.s. simulating a grave digging and pulling someone(Shamrock) into it. I gotta admit I love watching Ortiz act like a child out there! Love him or hate him, he's entertaining.

Andre Arlovski vs. Tim Sylvia

These two who banged each other up really quick in their last two meetings when out and had a 25 minute long boxing match. Arlovski had a simple game plan: don't do anything that would give him any kind of advantage. Leg kicks were working great for him, he stopped throwing them. His submission game is his strength, he didn't even try to take Sylvia down. Instead Arlovski stood out there and played Sylvia's game with a boxing match. *yawn*

I'm looking forward to ufc 62 because I know Chuck Liddell is going to make it worth watching.
