Writing a Journal

I'm suprised how little people like writing.

As my website has picked up a great deal of exposure many of my friends have expressed a degree of suprise that I would post up thoughts on various matters for the whole world to see. They see little point in taking the time to write a journal for the sake of simply writing and putting thoughts out there. Why would I want to write something that very few people, if any, are going to read and even if it did pick up some exposure whats it worth to me? People simply just don't attribute any value to writing unless its to make money via magazine, book, etc. It seems like people see it as a waste of time or something whimsical and without real purpose. Perhaps vanity. So why do I write and post it here?

Writing Allows me to sort my thoughts.

When writing about any subject the minutes tick off the clock and I found myself relaxed yet focused. I enjoy sorting and presenting my thoughts on a matter. You'd be suprised how scattered your brain can get and most people don't realize that scattered thoughts are much more uncomfortable than a sorted mind. Its as if you're sitting in an uncomfortable position on the couch! When you really begin to think about it you realize that you have to adjust. It amazes me that people associate writing with work and discomfort when it reality its as if you're massaging your mind.

Your mind is opposite from your body! Working your body physically isn't relaxing so we associate being still with relaxing behaviour and this causes us to want to do nothing in our free time. We may read or watch television but most of us do so without absorbing or categorizing thoughts. Most of the time we make spot judgements on subjects without thought or process. We allow our minds to sit idle and we don't exercise them appropriately. Many people feel stress when they try to sort their thoughts much like someone who doesn't work out feels strain when they try to run. Inactivity makes your mind unhealthy! Sit down and just write about whatever subject is on your mind in a journal and eventually that strain will turn to relief. Writing is a healthy way to improve your mind and lower your stress level the same as jogging does for the body.

The Internet is the place where you can write uncensored and it gets out there.

Newspapers and television news are all spin and political. People don't get to put their opinions out there without it being run through the political machine first. Online in websites and blogs people once again have the power to put their opinions out there and have them read. For instance when I wrote about Les Miles recently it was spidered and at least 1000 people have seen my opinion on the matter. Because of the work I've put into my website when I put writings out there people get to them thanks to the search engines. I only have to sit down, sort out my thoughts in a page, post it and it reaches people. I don't have to argue with people or wait for someone to bring up a subject. When they think about it and search for it they'll find my opinion here.

Writing is fun.

Plain and simple I like writing web pages and articles on subjects. When I originally started out in college I was in English. I love to read and write but when I got into computer science I didn't do it as much. I sort of lost my ability to write well and here I get to do some practice. Is good stuff.

On a related note I wrote a short little rant that everyone should read Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography. I have no other place on my site to put this link so here it is.
