Web Development

I've been on a web design warpath lately.

it I haven't been posting much in the last couple of weeks because I've been working myself to death on nuts and bolt web page design and development on College Toolbars. In the process I've noticed alot of things I need to update on this website and have done alot to improve it such as building the firefox toolbar, implementing the rss feed, adding more images, using video with the web for my Mustang Vlog, re-organizing and presenting the content. Its been pretty interesting stuff and I've learned alot so while I haven't been posting on this website as much as before I've been working behind the scenes. Most of it wasn't completely new to me however when you haven't done something daily for a while you forget the little details.

I'm trying to become a dmoz editor

The Baton Rouge Restaurants & Bars section of DMOZ is pretty much pathetic and doesn't represent them at all. They're missing a good number of the local favorites and so I've thrown my hat in to try and edit this category and probably expand to more Baton Rouge areas after that. DMOZ feeds into the Google directory and listing all of our better restaurants and bars would greatly expand the ability to find good places in the area rather than the crap listings provided by online advertising filled travel websites. I always wanted to be a dmoz editor and learn more about what goes on in there first hand so thats why I've been doing that.

Building RSS Feeds

As I previously posted I've been learning a little more about the importance of RSS feeds for the web. A great deal of my work indesigning advertising software until lately involved rigorous backend databasing and high speed XML feeds between backend web servers and database servers. Now days I'm more in the front lines and trying to "build the biggest signal I can" so to speak which is requiring a greater knowledge of using popular WWW information technologies. While I'm experienced in SEO, site building and modern Internet technologies, using it daily hasn't been something I've had to do until lately.
Working in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005

This is actually working out to be an expensive lesson I'm trying to learn as it requires me to purchase a new computer. My Compaq Presario laptop is a little out of date for using robust development software and thats precisely what I've got to do now days. So I've been researching purchasing a new quality notebook computer so I can work outside the office on development.

Toolbar and Toolband building techniques

I've been learning more every day about building toolbars for firefox and toolbands for IE.

Working with Wikipedia

I've been working with Wikipedia which is a encyclopedia on the Internet and authorative on just about everything.
