Baton Rouge Restaurants

Casual guide to food in the city!

Here is my guide to Baton Rouge restaurants. It contains restaurants that are unique to the area or prefered chains that aren't found on every street corner. I also have to have been to the restaurants I list. I've probably left a few out but these are the most notable places in my mind at the time of writing this. Feel free to drop me a line with a suggestion or a question. I try to put a short description thats not quite a review but just my general opinion of the place. I list mostly places I like since I don't even think of the places I don't. I try to put their official website links up for address and menu help if you're looking for that. I love to get email suggestions.

Update: August 2006: - I have alot more sites to add so I'm going to start categorizing them and moving them into their categories.

  • The Jambalaya Shoppe [Official Site] - A small restaurant no larger than a Subway but the Jambalaya shoppe is a must try. They offer classic Louisiana cuisine. Jambalaya, Gumbo, Red beans n rice, crawfish pies, etc. Several locations most notable being Perkins off of Seigen lane and Gonzales. Jambalaya Shoppe on Urbanspoon
  • Tsunami's Japanese Cuisine &Sushi bar [official site] is located on the top floor of the Shaw Center for the Arts in the newly renovated downtown area. On 3rd street. The view is beautiful and the food is excellent. Tsunami Sushi on Urbanspoon
  • Fox and The Hound - This is a restaurant/bar that appears to be just a bar at first glance. If you're looking for a great place to go with co-workers thats close to Interstate in the hot spot over off of College drive then this is the place for you. Fox & Hound English Pub & Grille on Urbanspoon
  • A &M Mart - If you're down at LSU for a football game and you want a great poboy sandwich or Pita then go to this little deli/store at the corner of Lee Drive and Nicholson. They make an incredibly tasty sandwich . American Market on Urbanspoon
  • Mellow Mushroom [Official Site] - A pizza joint located on Burbank Drive towards LSU. A great place for pizza type food and at night its a pretty popular college bar. We've gone there a few nights for an open mic night that was packed house. Drink Specials. Mellow Mushroom on Urbanspoon
  • Superior Grill [Official Site] - On Government St, this is one of the most popular mexican places in town. On Thursday night they have a band and one hell of a crowd. Superior Grill on Urbanspoon
  • Ninfa's - A great place to go for the whole family, its located on the service road right off of College and Interstate 10. Ninfa's has great service, great food and a damn good margarita. I've always been very happy going here. Ninfa's Mexican on Urbanspoon
  • Sullivan's Steak house - Right next door to Fox N Hound off of Corperate St. this place is where to go if you want a really good steak. Their [official site] actually has a good pitch that says exactly what they have to offer. Sullivan's Steakhouse on Urbanspoon
  • Kamado's - A kick ass sushi bar that has two locations. One on College and one on South Sherwood Forest Blvd. Kamado's is a locally owned and operated sushi and hibachi grill that I eat at very regularly. Kamado's on Urbanspoon
  • Izzo's Illegal Burrito [Official Site] - I remember when this place first opened near LSU. You could buy a burrito the size of a medium pizza for not too much money. Kind of like Taco Bell / Subway here as its assembly line Mexican food. Pretty good though. Kamado's on Urbanspoon

If you own or just want to recommend any great Baton Rouge restaurants I don't have listed here then please mail them to me at Baton Rouge restaurants at jerryodom.com and I'll see about listing them here for you. Update: Restaurant Guide and DMOZ

I volunteered to be the DMOZ editor for Baton Rouge Restaurants and Bars and was accepted. This is cool because DMOZ rankings help with search engine rankings so I get to place the websites of all the good Baton Rouge restaurants in DMOZ. This way when people search for places to eat around here instead of getting spam or generic junk they'll get the real websites for these local establishments. So my guide extends to DMOZ now if you want more information go look there. Mind that not all the websites I list here will be listed there because there I'm specifically listing establishments found only in the city of Baton Rouge.
